UNITED TO ADD CHICAGO-SHANGHAI NON-STOP FLIGHT

United is adding its second daily non-stop flights to

central and eastern US and Shanghai. The existing
non-stop flights between San Francisco and Shanghai
will continue. United also operates a daily San
  Francisco-Beijing non-stop flight and a daily Chicago-
Beijing non-stop flight. By this capacity, United
operates total of 4 daily flights to mainland China,

CHINA NO LONGER COLLECT AIRPORT CONSTRUCTION FEE AT SITE

Beginning September 1, 2004, China's airports will stop
collect airport construction fee at airports. Instead,
the fee will added to air tickets as airport taxes. The
airport taxes are 90 Yuan RMB (US$10.87) for each
international departure, and 50 Yuan RMB (US$6.04) for
each China domestic departure, respectively. Connecting
flights are subject to the airport taxes as well. The
change makes it easier for the travelers. In USA and
many other countries, those taxes are being collected
with air tickets. Since there are many taxes for each
ticket, it is not unusual that a US-China ticket has a
total tax amount of over $120. Tax amounts vary with
  destinations, routes and carriers.

U.S.-CHINA AIR PACT: NEW AIRLINES TO BE ADDED

China and the U.S. reached an air services agreement
on June 18, 2004 that could dramatically increase
service between the two countries over the next six
years. It will let five additional airlines from each
country serve the market. The U.S. and China also
agreed to allow each country's carriers to serve any
city in the other country, and permit unlimited code
sharing between U.S. and Chinese airlines.

American Airlines plans to apply for the authority to
offer nonstop Chicago-Shanghai service on 777 aircraft.
"Chicago is a huge local market and a connecting
center where American Airlines can offer convenient
access to China from dozens of cities in our U.S.
network, and is the perfect choice to operate services
provided by the new route authority," American Airlines
said. Currently, American Airlines sells US-China tickets
with its services to Japan using a third carrier such as
Air China, JAL, ANA, and China Eastern between Japan and
China. American Airlines is also currently code-shared
with China Eastern Airlines for the daily Los Angeles-
  Shanghai-Beijing flight.
